Why am I getting an "Error! Unrecognized checkout type: (undefined)" error message when I try to check out an eBook?

This error message appears when you have already hit the checkout limit and are trying to borrow an additional title.  In order to check out new titles, you will either need to return something early from OverDrive (or via Libby) or wait until one or more of your titles expire and return themselves.

This error message is most commonly seen by those who select Kindle format.  In order to return Kindle-format titles early, you must sign in to your Amazon account and go to Your Content and Devices, click on Manage Digital Devices, click on the Content tab, and choose Return Early in the Actions menu next to each title.

In the future, if you have anything besides a Kindle eReader or older Kindle Fire that you are using to read ebooks, we encourage you to try the Libby app (or the OverDrive app) instead and skip Kindle format entirely.  Use the Libby (or OverDrive) app to search/browse, borrow, download, read, and return early all within the app.  Fewer steps, and easier to see when you're hitting your limits, etc.
