How can I donate books for book sales?

NOTE: FVRL branches are not currently accepting book donations. However, the FVRL Foundation is accepting limited, pre-scheduled book donations at this time. See the Foundation support page for more information. (Updated July 13, 2020)

The Friends of the Library groups affiliated with each of FVRL's libraries accept donations of the following items, in good condition:

  • Used hardcover books
  • Used paperback books
  • Audiobooks
  • DVDs (*except Goldendale)
  • Commercially-recorded VHS tapes (*check first--some groups accept these and most can't)

They aren't able to accept:

  • Magazines currently in print
  • Encyclopedias
  • Damaged books
  • Out of date textbooks, medical, or technology books
  • Reader's Digest condensed books

Items that are accepted are sold by Friends groups and the Library Foundation to raise money to support library district services and programs.

You can drop off donations at any of our libraries except the Vancouver Mall Library. When donating a large number of items (i.e., several boxes), please contact the FVRL Foundation OR the library branch in advance. Branch staff will need to make sure that someone (possibly a Friends member) can be available at the library to either assist or relocate the donation. Foundation staff may be able to arrange for the donation to be dropped off at the District Operations Center instead and to help unload the materials.

Donors can typically get a tax receipt form when they drop off a donation.
